Letter

Dear Keene String Families,

The Keene Chamber Orchestra was honored and delighted to host those of you who were able to attend the October 7, 2007 Keene Chamber Orchestra (KCO)  Colonial Theatre concert with your family and friends.

KCO would like to cordially invite all of you to attend our February 3, 2008 4 PM Colonial Theatre concert, as guests of the KCO. Please bring your family and friends as you wish, also as our guests.

February 3 is Super Bowl Sunday, but don't worry, the concert will finish in time for all of us to go see the New England Patriots win!

The program begins with the famous music for "The Lone Ranger". If you are not familiar with "The Lone Ranger", check that old western out on DVD -- it is amazing and great! The rest of the concert will consist of two Russian masterpieces, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concert No. 2, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2 ("Little Russian".)
Please tell Melanie Everard how many of you will be attending Feb 3.

Please consider the following thoughts, suggestions, information, and questions, which will increase your enjoyment of the Feb 3 concert.

  1. Since the music is live, and not on a CD, please do not make any  noise while listening.
  2. Can you find some people in the orchestra who are your age or younger?
  3. See if you can find Sarah Atwood, Ian MacKay, Jacob MacKay, Mary Beth MacKay, Jake Pietroniro, and Miles Walter, in the violin, viola, and cello sections.
  4. Can you hear the double basses?
  5. Can you hear and see the flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, French horns (4 of them!), trumpets, and trombones (3!)
  6. The program is entitled "The Lone Ranger Goes to Russia!" What do you think of that?
  7. Questions to ask yourself while listening:
    1. What instrument has the melody? (Notice how often this changes.)
    2. What is the mood of the music?
    3. What story does the music make you think of? (Make up your own story as the music goes along).
    4. Can you tell where the beginning, the middle, and the end of each movement is?
    5. Can you imagine what it would feel like to be in the orchestra and play this fantastic music?

Looking forward to seeing you February 3!
